Mackenzie's Science Experiment
You will need:
3 clear glasses (fill 2 with water)
2 different lots of food colouring
2 paper towels folded in half and then in half again longways
Put one lot of food colouring into one cup of water and the other lot of food colouring into the 2nd cup of water. Leave one cup empty.
Step 2.
Put one of the paper towels into the first cup and then bend it into the empty cup. The other paper towel goes into the 2nd cup of coloured water and then bends into the empty cup too.
My Predictions are:
The water will get evenly added to the empty glass and mix the colours. I thought that could happen by pouring the water from the blue glass and the yellow glass evenly into the empty glass.
We took a photo after 2 minutes.
Next Prediction:
The colours are moving. I think they are going to meet in the empty cup and they will change colours.
The middle cup will fill up with a mixture of blue and yellow - I wasn't sure what colour that would make and guessed red.
We started checking on this every 10 minutes to see what was happening.
Next Prediction:
The water will turn green and the paper towels will too.
DID THAT HAPPEN?????
The next morning this is what I found ...
The water had walked along the paper towels into the empty glass.
The middle glass now has about the same amount of water as the two other glasses
...
and
...
the water in the middle cup is now
GREEN!!
The paper towels on the ends that were sitting in the middle cup are now green but the rest of them is the colour that they were originally.
COOL HUH??
This is called
WALKING WATER.
